20 reasons why using audio books

are great for you!

You know why you should be reading but still you don’t.

You know why you should be reading instead of watching TV but still you don’t.

You know why you should be reading while on vacation but still you don’t.

You also know that I could go on and on about these same matters but that would be just about as dumb as you not reading. So I will spare you the lecture and get down to what you came here for and that is the list of reasons why you should be using audio books to read the books that you have promised yourself that you would read each year.

So the list follows here;

1. As witnessed during the recent commercial, it is very hard to read while you are walking.
   
2. You cannot (should not) read while driving a car. Of course you can listen to an audio book while driving.
   
3. It is very difficult to watch your child perform while reading a book. Of course it is very easy to watch while listening to an audio book.
   
4. It is very difficult to read a book while exercising. It is not for listening to an audio book via an MP3 or iPOD player.
   
5. It is not readily possible to do house work and read a book but you could easily listen to an audio book.
   
6. It would be very distracting to be reading a book while having sex with your partner or even alone. It would not be if you were listening to your favorite subject on how to use that special technique you promised your partner.
   
7. It would be very difficult to read in bed with the lights off, so that your partner could go to sleep but it would be very easy to listen to an audio book with the lights off or on. Just to drive your partner crazy.
   
8. It would be very difficult to watch a sporting event, either live or on TV, but you could easily watch and not listen while listening to an audio book.
   
9. While we talk about sporting events what about after dinner when things quiet down and you begin to read that book you’ve been trying to read for 4 months and you finally settle in only to have the kids start chasing each other and screaming and yelling and disturbing you moment of silence. Well they would disturb your audio book reading also but you could turn up the volume. But instead of reading that Romance novel start reading that murder mystery and pretend the kids just got killed by a deranged housewife. Put the good headphones on though so that the noise is at a minimum.
   
10. Speaking of the kids, why aren’t they reading or listening. You could all listen to one of the classics together as a family or even have their friends over on a weekly basis to have a “reading period” for all of the kids.
    
11.  Can you read a book while working in the yard? Hardly but it would be a great idea to listen to you audio book while mowing, raking, planting or any other yard work.
    
12. Suppose you wanted to ride you bicycle through the neighborhood, another good place to read your audio book.
    
13. Thinking of that, what if you have a motorcycle, wouldn’t that be a great place to use your audio book instead of music!
    
14. What about the kids, there must be some quiet time for them between sports, school work or practice, eating, homework and bedtime. Use that time to read to them using the audio book of their choice.
    
15. How about their bedtime. Would they prefer to listen to an audio book while they are trying to get to sleep. Remember the olden days when you used to read to them and they would fall asleep. Well you could do it again by using audio books.
    
16. How about when you are on the throne. Could you listen to an audio book then. You betcha!
    
17. How about when you get to that point when you need a new eye prescription and it is very difficult to read. Time to get the audio book out.
    
18. You could use an audio book when you are brushing your hair of brushing your teeth. Something that reading a book would be very difficult to do.
    
19. Talking about bad eye sight, how about the grand parents. With their eye sight getting worse all the time and their hearing going bad it would be a great time to get them a good set of headphones and audio books to help them read.
    
20. And finally, just because it is easy, fun and convenient to do. And many times the audio books are cheaper than the hard bound books.

For all of the times when books are not easy to use, you will find an audio book is very easy to use. Very seldom is it difficult to use the audio book.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think reading a book is better than listening to a book but as I have listed the top 20 reasons for using an audio book, there are just some times that reading a book is just not convenient.

This probably explains why reading a book is not as popular as it used to be. We just do not have the leisure time to read like we used to. Even with the kids gone, empty nesters are having difficulty finding time to read.

So to be able to continue reading, audio books are a great alternative to reading when you just don’t have the time. Don’t be afraid of it, "try it Mikey, you may like it"!
